Transferring registration to another firm

Reinstatement of registration

When an individual leaves a sponsoring firm and joins a new registered firm, they may apply to have their registration or permitted individual status automatically reinstated if all of the following conditions apply:

  • the individual submits Form 33-109F7 Reinstatement of Registered Individuals and Permitted Individuals (Form 33-109F7), on or before the 90th day after they cease to have authority to act for their former sponsoring firm (the Cessation Date);
  • the individual is seeking reinstatement with a sponsoring firm in one or more of the same categories of registration, and jurisdictions, in which the individual is currently registered;
  • the new sponsoring firm is registered in the same category of registration as the individual's former sponsoring firm;
  • after the Cessation Date, there have been no changes to the information previously submitted in Items 13 (other than item 13.3(a)) through 16 of the individual’s Form 33-109F4 Registration of Individuals and Review of Permitted Individuals (Form 33-109F4);
  • on or before the Cessation Date, the individual notified the regulator of any change to the information previously submitted in the individuals Form 33-109F4;
  • on the date the Form 33-109F7 is submitted, the individual’s information in the National Registration Database (NRD) does not state “there is no response to this question” for any item of the individual’s Form 33-109F4; and
  • as of the Cessation Date there are no allegations against the individual relevant to their suitability for registration, including allegations related to a crime, breach of any laws, regulations or order of a court, regulatory body or self-regulatory organization, or failure to meet any standards of conduct of the sponsoring firm or of any professional body.

If all of the above conditions are met, the individual may apply for reinstatement of registration by completing Form 33-109F7 and the sponsoring firm must submit the form through NRD. There is no fee associated with reinstatement of registration in Ontario.

Beginning April 1, 2025, submissions made by individuals acting on behalf of investment dealers and mutual fund dealers will be reviewed by the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). Individuals who do not meet the criteria for reinstatement of registration must submit a complete Form 33-109F4 on NRD through the submission type “Reactivation of Registration” and pay the applicable fee.
