For Immediate Release IAP
TORONTO – The Investor Advisory Panel, an independent committee of the Ontario Securities Commission, congratulates Shawn Brayman, PlanPlus Inc. president, and Dr. John E. Grable of the University of Georgia on receiving the Best Applied Research award at the Financial Planning Association 2016 Annual Conference for their independent research, Current Practices for Risk Profiling in Canada and Review of Global Best Practices, published in November 2015.
PlanPlus Inc. was engaged by the Investor Advisory Panel (IAP) in March 2015 to perform research into the current practices in the Canadian marketplace that are used to determine a client’s risk profile and to evaluate these practices compared to best practices globally.
On September 28, 2016, the IAP will be jointly organizing a roundtable with the OSC Investor Office to explore the findings of PlanPlus Inc.'s research report and provide insights on possible next steps to improve the risk profiling used in the retail investment advice process. Members of the PlanPlus Inc. research team will join participants from the financial services industry, academia, law, government, regulatory and investor advocacy organizations for the roundtable, with a public report on the outcomes of the roundtable to follow.
The Investor Advisory Panel is an independent panel of experts, funded by the OSC, that enables investor concerns and voices to be represented in the rule and policy-making process. Its mandate is to solicit and represent the views of investors on the Commission’s policy and rule making initiatives.
