OSC Requests Members for New Market Structure Advisory Committee
For Immediate Release OSC
TORONTO – The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is seeking applicants for membership on its new Market Structure Advisory Committee (MSAC).
MSAC will serve as a forum to discuss issues associated with market structure and marketplace operations in the Canadian and global capital markets. The Committee will also act as a source of feedback to OSC staff on the development of policy and rule-making initiatives that promote investor protection, fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in those markets.
“The OSC is undertaking a number of important regulatory initiatives that address the evolving market structure,” said Susan Greenglass, Director, Market Regulation. “This committee will provide a unique perspective that will help to inform and enhance our policy development process.”
The MSAC will consist of between 10-14 members with a variety of different perspectives and will meet at least four times annually. Members will be selected for their extensive knowledge of the Canadian capital markets and market structure and strong knowledge of the regulatory requirements in securities legislation in Canada. Terms of Committee members will be two years.
The Committee will be chaired by an industry representative who has expertise in market structure issues and interest in related policy considerations. The Chair of the Committee will be chosen from amongst the members of the Committee by the members themselves. The term of the Chair will be one year.
All interested parties, including representatives with industry experience and expertise in market structure issues, are invited to apply in writing for membership on MSAC.
Interested parties should submit their application, indicating their areas of practice and relevant experience, by July 5, 2011.
