TORONTO – The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is pleased to announce that Chair and CEO Maureen Jensen has been named a Women's Executive Network (WXN) 2018 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winner.
Presented by KPMG and released today, the list of Top 100 Winners pays tribute to outstanding women across Canada who have advocated for diversity in the workforce, and who serve as an inspiration for the next generation of leaders.
“Maureen is a remarkable leader and one of the most respected regulators in this country. We are delighted that the WXN has recognized her with this prestigious award,” said OSC Lead Director AnneMarie Ryan. “In a career that has spanned more than 30 years, Maureen has forged a path for greater diversity and has defined what it means to be a role model for women in business today.”
Ms. Jensen joined the OSC in 2011 as Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer. In 2016, she was appointed Chair, becoming the first woman to lead Canada’s largest securities regulator where she has championed for investor protection and strong capital markets.
Prior to joining the OSC, Ms. Jensen held senior leadership positions at the Toronto Stock Exchange, Market Regulation Services Inc. and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada. A Registered Professional Geoscientist, Ms. Jensen began her career in the mining industry where she was involved with several junior mining companies.
Ms. Jensen is a strong supporter of gender diversity in the workplace and was a driving force behind the introduction of disclosure rules aimed at increasing the representation of women on corporate boards and in executive positions.
“We are celebrating 100 of Canada’s highest achieving women in diverse fields,” said Sherri Stevens, CEO of WXN. “All 100 are role models for the generations who will follow – which is why it’s very important to recognize and celebrate their great achievements.”
The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. Investors are urged to check the registration of any persons or company offering an investment opportunity and to review the OSC investor materials available at www.osc.ca.
